The people behind Soln
Soln is led by Matt and Jeff—partners in life and in this work—connected by a shared respect for place, design, and the quiet power of a well-cared-for home.
Our relationship with the high desert began gradually. What started as passing through Joshua Tree became returning often, then staying longer, and eventually renovating a home and having a true connection to the area. Over time, the desert stopped feeling like a destination and began to feel like something to understand and be a part of.
From caretakers to collaborators
Our first desert home wasn’t turnkey. It required patience, attention, and a willingness to listen to the space itself. We spent months restoring and refining it—not to make it impressive, but to make it feel right. Calm. Settled. Easy to be in.
That home became Casa de Alta Loma. It’s not just a short-term rental—it’s a place we return to whenever we can. A space shaped by lived experience, trial and error, and a deep respect for how homes actually function over time.
That perspective continues to guide everything we do at Soln.
Seeing the gaps, firsthand
During our time in Joshua Tree, we managed the home ourselves, welcomed guests, and spent as much time here as we could. We came to know the rhythms of the area in everyday ways—Saturday mornings at the farmers market, browsing local shops, meeting and supporting local artists, and long hikes in the desert with our dogs, Peet and Gus.
That connection made it all the more challenging when a job reassignment required us to be away from the desert for a period of time. Watching our home being managed from afar gave us an unfiltered view into how difficult it can be to trust others with something that matters.
We experienced firsthand the frustration of working with local managers who lacked clear standards, reliable systems, and long-term direction. Small issues were missed. Communication was inconsistent. Care felt reactive rather than thoughtful.
We also heard the same stories repeatedly from locals—homes being managed without cohesion, intention, or accountability.
It became clear there was a better way.
Why Soln exists
We launched Soln in 2026 with the intention of bringing something more grounded and more reliable to the high desert. Not a larger operation, but a better one.
Soln was built to:
Apply consistent standards and clear systems
Care for homes with a long-term perspective
Stay hands-on and locally present
Communicate proactively and transparently
Respect both the home and the people connected to it
This isn’t about managing volume. It’s about managing well.
Why this matters for owners
We don’t approach this work as operators or outsiders. We’ve been owners navigating renovations, wear and tear, guest expectations, and the emotional weight of caring for a home from a distance.
We know what matters most:
Decisions made with long-term care in mind, not short-term convenience
Attention to wear and tear before it becomes visible or costly
Clear standards applied consistently, even when no one is watching
Systems that support follow-through, not just appearances
A steady presence that protects both the home and the experience
Soln exists to bridge that gap. We bring structure, restraint, and consistency to the day-to-day care of homes while remaining communicative, available, and invested.
Owners can be as hands-on or hands-off as they’d like. We are always hands-on.
Why guests feel the difference
Guests may never know the backstory, but they feel the result. Homes that are cared for intentionally tend to feel calmer, clearer, and more welcoming.
For us, guest experience isn’t about over-promising or over-explaining. It’s about clear expectations, thoughtful communication, and spaces that allow people to settle in and enjoy where they are.
The goal is simple: memorable stays for the right reasons.
A shared standard
Soln isn’t about luxury or scale. It’s about intention.
We welcome homes of many sizes and styles—from expansive properties designed for groups to small cabins meant for two—as long as the space is cared for and the experience feels cohesive.
We’re committed to being part of the high desert community by supporting owners, respecting the land, and helping create experiences that benefit both guests and the places they stay.
A personal note
Soln grew out of lived experience—both the joy of caring for a home well and the frustration of seeing how easily that care can fall short without the right standards and systems.
We built Soln to do better. For owners. For guests. And for the desert itself.
If it feels like a fit, we look forward to connecting.
