A thoughtful refresh was just completed in February 2026 to enhance comfort and functionality, including an open, reimagined living area with a cozy sectional, upgraded TV, and a more spacious dining table—perfect for slow mornings, movie nights, and shared meals.

The kitchen is fully-stocked, the living room is cozy, the outdoor spaces are numerous, the beds are comfy and the outdoor shower is luxurious.

At night, look up and you'll see the Milky Way from the hot tub or chaise loungers. Roast marshmallows for s'mores around the fire pit next to the mural, painted by local high desert artist Ana DiGiallonardo.

From front gate to entrance, Joshua Tree National Park is four miles away, the shops and stores in town are a mile away, or go nowhere and find your inner-balance from the yoga pad.

Having a place of our own in Joshua Tree has been a dream of ours for years. Our first time here was while passing through during a road trip from Denver to Palm Springs in 2019. We were mesmerized by the jagged landscapes and goofy-looking trees. A few months later, we made a return trip but didn’t go all the way to Palm Springs and spent a week in Joshua Tree falling in love with the town. After a few road trips a year from Denver, we decided to move to Southern California in the summer 2021, with hopes of finding our own desert-boho-chic-chill place with great views and delicious sunsets in Joshua Tree. In the fall of 2021 we found this cabin – outdated and in need of some serious TLC – and spent the next six months on renovations to turn it into what you see now. Casa de Alta Loma is literally our dream come true! It’s not just a short-term rental property for us, it’s our get-away escape from the real world.

Our love for the Joshua Tree area and for hosting guests from all over the world led us to found Soln in 2026. We created Soln to bring a different, more thoughtful approach to caring for homes—and the people who stay in them.

This home is professionally managed by Soln, a desert-rooted hospitality company based in Joshua Tree, CA. We’re deeply familiar with the rhythms, landscape, and practical realities of staying well here.

Each Soln stay is supported through thoughtful preparation before arrival, careful attention to the home, and responsive, human communication throughout your visit.

GUEST ACCESS

You'll have access to the entire property, including the private half-acre fenced lot.

The entire property is enclosed with a fence, including a gated driveway entrance. We do like to note that in several areas the fencing doesn’t extend fully to the ground. Those openings are intentional to allow small desert wildlife, like rabbits, to pass through.

If you’ll be traveling with a small dog, those gaps may be large enough for an escape, so we recommend keeping a close eye and using caution while outside. Medium to large size dogs haven’t been an issue in the past, but we always recommend keeping an eye on dogs of all sizes.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE

Casa de Alta Loma is located in San Bernardino County — a fun fact, it’s the largest county in the U.S. and home to some of the most expansive desert landscapes in the West. With that scale comes a bit of structure: the County requires all short-term rental guests complete additional registration and acknowledgements prior to arrival. After booking, you’ll receive a secure link to complete the required forms. We ask that this information be completed within 24 hours of booking so we can finalize your reservation and focus on preparing for your stay. These steps are required by the County and help protect the home, the desert and the surrounding community. Failure to complete the required County forms may result in cancellation of the reservation.

COUNTY REGULATIONS AND COMPLIANCE

Casa de Alta Loma operates as a short-term rental under San Bernardino County regulations. Compliance with all County short-term rental rules is mandatory for all guests and visitors. Violations of these regulations may result in enforcement actions, including fines, termination of the reservation and removal from the property, as permitted by law.

OCCUPANCY AND VEHICLES

Per County regulations, the property is limited to a maximum of 4 guests and 2 vehicles at any time. This includes daytime visitors. Exceeding these limits is a violation of County code.

CHECK-OUT AND LATE DEPARTURE POLICY

Check-out time is 11:00 AM. Unless arrangements have been made in advance, the home must be fully vacated by this time so our team can prepare the property with the level of care required for incoming guests. Turnovers are carefully scheduled, particularly on same-day arrivals.

LATE CHECK-OUT REQUESTS

We always make every attempt to honor late check-out requests made in advance and when the schedule allows, these are generally accommodated at no additional charge. Any late check-out must be approved by us prior to departure time.

UNAUTHORIZED LATE CHECK-OUT

Remaining in the home past the scheduled check-out time without prior approval disrupts cleaning, preparation and incoming reservations. Late check-out fees apply as follows: 30–45 minutes: $50. 46–60 minutes: $75. 61–75 minutes: $150. 76+ minutes: ½ day rate. 2+ hours: Full additional night. 3+ hours: We reserve the right to charge up to 2× the nightly rate. Late check-out fees reflect the disruption to scheduled cleaning and preparation for the next guests. These fees do not imply consent to continue occupying the property.

Smoking (including cigarettes, marijuana and vaping) is *only* allowed outside. Cigarette butts must be disposed of safely and properly, not just tossed on the ground. Hosts reserve the right to charge a minimum fee of $500 if there are signs or evidence of smoking or vaping inside.

PETS

Up to 2 dogs are allowed per stay with prior approval and payment of a $109 non-refundable pet fee. This fee helps ensure the next guests will never know a dog was lounging around. Guests are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. An additional fee may apply for pet waste left in the yard. Unauthorized pets or failure to pay the pet fee may result in additional charges or cancellation of the reservation.

HOT TUB

Use of the hot tub is at your own risk. No glass near the hot tub. Please shower before and after use. No dogs in the hot tub. No children in the hot tub without adult supervision.

WEATHER AND OUTDOOR CRITTERS

Even when it’s not hot outside, the sun is intense in the high desert – wear sunscreen, big hats, sunglasses and stay hydrated while you’re here. Wind is common in the high desert and sometimes can be pretty extreme – anything you leave outside can (and will) blow away.

The desert has a lot of critters and for some reason they like to find their way inside if they can, so please keep the doors and windows closed — or their screens — at all times to keep them in their natural habitat and not inside with you.

Weather can reach its extremes in the high desert and storms can be pretty severe, if it starts raining stay out of areas and roads that are flooded
When it’s windy or stormy, sometimes the power goes out. Southern California Edison has an outage page you can track the progress and estimated time it’ll be back on — no refunds will be provided if the power goes out during your stay
- In the event there is a power outage, you’ll find battery-powered LED lanterns in the hallway closet
Earthquakes are extremely rare, but Joshua Tree isn’t far from the San Andreas fault and has experienced some moderate quakes over the years, here are a couple tips just in case
- If you hear and feel an earthquake and you’re inside, stay inside and away from walls or shelves and if able, get under the kitchen table or desk in the small bedroom
- If you’re outside, stay outside and away from anything that may fall and hit you

YOGA PAD

The yoga pad is now open to the sky. After many attempts over the years to keep the sail shade in place—including reinforced poles and concrete footings—the desert winds ultimately had the final say. As always out here, Mother Nature wins.

DAMAGE

We understand that accidents can happen. If anything is damaged during your stay—whether to the home, the property, or any of the curated items inside—we ask that you let us know as soon as possible. Prompt communication allows us to address the issue quickly and thoughtfully, helping minimize impact to the home and ensuring future guests continue to enjoy the space as intended. We approach these situations with fairness and care, and appreciate your transparency.

We are not responsible and do not provide refunds for issues outside of our control, including but not limited to weather-related events or power outages. These issues are rare but unpredictable.
