Created as an artist’s personal getaway and creative space, the home offers something far beyond a standard stay. Original artwork, polished concrete floors, thoughtful interiors, collected details, and the quiet beauty of the desert come together in a setting that feels both inspiring and restorative. It is part private retreat, part lived-in gallery, and entirely shaped by a strong sense of place.
This is the kind of home that changes your pace the moment you arrive. Mornings feel slow and expansive. Afternoons invite reading, creativity, yoga, cooking, and wandering the expansive property. Evenings are for sunsets, magical golden hours, the hot tub, the outdoor fireplace, and a sky full of stars.
Outpost Projects offers a remote getaway while being close to some of the area’s top destinations including: Giant Rock Meeting Room and La Copine — less than 5 mins. Pappy and Harriet’s and Pioneertown — 15 mins. Downtown Joshua Tree — 15 mins. Joshua Tree National Park — 20 mins
The recently renovated kitchen was designed to feel both beautiful and functional, with high-end finishes and everything needed to arrive, unpack, and settle in with ease. Guests will find a fully stocked kitchen with an induction stovetop, convection oven, microwave, dishwasher, toaster oven, French presses, Ninja blender, cookware, and a Brita water filter, plus a complimentary selection of locally roasted Joshua Tree Coffee and various teas.
The generous dining area opens to the kitchen and living space and features another artistic focal point — a large handmade dining table.
The home offers two bedrooms — one with a king bed and one with a queen upgraded memory foam bed — both with down comforters, organic bedding, and extra wool blankets for added comfort. Blackout shades in both bedrooms let you choose your pace — wake with the desert sun, or linger a little longer.
The sunlit den offers a dedicated workspace by day (if you must) along with a record player and vinyl collection, sound bar, artist books, contemporary art books, and area-related reading. By evening, the comfortable couch and flat-screen TV make it an ideal place to settle in and watch a movie.
Both bathrooms were also recently renovated with the same attention to detail, including a private ensuite designed to feel calm, elevated, and restorative after a day in the desert. Organic towels and vegan shampoo + body wash add to the experience
Outside, the experience opens up even more: five acres of privacy, Joshua trees, wide desert skies, and views that shift beautifully throughout the day. Soak in the hot tub after sunset, gather around the outdoor fireplace, or simply unwind and take in the quiet.
Outpost Projects was created for art lovers, design-minded travelers, and desert seekers looking for a stay that feels personal, inspiring, and unmistakably rooted in the high desert.
OWNED BY AILI AND PROFESSIONALLY MANAGED BY SOLN
ABOUT THE OWNER
Aili is a visual artist, desert dweller, and outdoorswoman whose work is deeply informed by landscape, material, and a thoughtful way of living. With Scandinavian roots and a love of hiking, gardening, and the quiet rhythms of the high desert, she has created Outpost Projects as both a personal retreat and an evolving creative space.
Her home reflects that point of view throughout — art-filled, deeply considered, and grounded in a sense of beauty that feels both inspiring and restorative. Designed as a live-in gallery and sanctuary for art lovers and desert seekers alike, Outpost Projects brings together original artwork, collected objects, and the stillness of the surrounding desert in a way that feels personal, welcoming, and unlike anywhere else.
Aili splits her time between Los Angeles and the high desert, where her studio practice and connection to the landscape continue to shape the space. Outpost Projects is a true labor of love, created to offer guests a stay that feels immersive, creative, and deeply rooted in place.
YOUR LOCAL HOSTS
This home is professionally managed by Soln, a desert-rooted hospitality company founded by Matt + Jeff and based in Joshua Tree, CA. We’re deeply familiar with the rhythms, landscape, and practical realities of staying well here.
Each Soln stay is supported through thoughtful preparation before arrival, careful attention to the home, and responsive, human communication throughout your visit.
We’re here for you before and during your stay—whether you have questions about the home, need recommendations for hiking, dining, stargazing, or exploring the area, or simply want guidance to help make the most of your time in the desert. If anything comes up, we’re just a message away.
GUEST ACCESS
Guests will have access to the entire home and the surrounding private five-acre property, offering plenty of space to relax and take in the desert setting. The private art studios and the vintage travel trailer on the property are not included in guest access.
The area immediately surrounding the house is fully fenced with gated access, making it especially well suited for guests traveling with dogs. Outpost welcomes up to two well-behaved dogs with an additional pet fee.
Dogs must be kept on leash any time they are outside the fenced area and should never be allowed to roam freely. As this is the desert, we ask guests to keep a close watch on their pets at all times, as coyotes, snakes and other wildlife are present.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
Outpost Projects is located in San Bernardino County — a fun fact, it’s the largest county in the U.S. and home to some of the most expansive desert landscapes in the West. With that scale comes a bit of structure: the County requires all short-term rental guests complete additional registration and acknowledgements prior to arrival. After booking, you’ll receive a secure link to complete the required forms. We ask that this information be completed within 24 hours of booking so we can finalize your reservation and focus on preparing for your stay. These steps are required by the County and help protect the home, the desert and the surrounding community. Failure to complete the required County forms may result in cancellation of the reservation.
COUNTY REGULATIONS AND COMPLIANCE
Outpost Projects operates as a short-term rental under San Bernardino County regulations. Compliance with all County short-term rental rules is mandatory for all guests and visitors. Violations of these regulations may result in enforcement actions, including fines, termination of the reservation and removal from the property, as permitted by law.
OCCUPANCY
Per County regulations, the property is limited to a maximum of 4 guests at any time. This includes children and daytime visitors. Exceeding these limits is a violation of County code.
OUTDOOR FIREPLACE AND FIRE RESTRICTIONS
The outdoor fireplace is available to enjoy and can be a beautiful part of your time in the desert — when conditions allow. Fires are permitted only within the designated outdoor fireplace and are not allowed during fire restrictions or on windy days. Due to changing weather and safety conditions, we cannot guarantee that fires will be possible during your stay.
The desert is a fragile environment where wildfire can start and spread quickly. We ask that you use care and good judgment in helping protect the home and surrounding landscape.
FIREWOOD
Guests must provide their own firewood, which can be easily purchased at most grocery and convenience stores throughout the high desert.
CHECK-OUT AND LATE DEPARTURE POLICY
Check-out time is 11:00 AM. Unless arrangements have been made in advance, the home must be fully vacated by this time so our team can prepare the property with the level of care required for incoming guests. Turnovers are carefully scheduled, particularly on same-day arrivals.
LATE CHECK-OUT REQUESTS
We always make every attempt to honor late check-out requests made in advance and when the schedule allows, these are generally accommodated at no additional charge. Any late check-out must be approved by us prior to departure time.
UNAUTHORIZED LATE CHECK-OUT
Remaining in the home past the scheduled check-out time without prior approval disrupts cleaning, preparation and incoming reservations. Late check-out fees apply as follows: 30–45 minutes: $50. 46–60 minutes: $75. 61–75 minutes: $150. 76+ minutes: ½ day rate. 2+ hours: Full additional night. 3+ hours: We reserve the right to charge up to 2× the nightly rate. Late check-out fees reflect the disruption to scheduled cleaning and preparation for the next guests. These fees do not imply consent to continue occupying the property.
SMOKING
Smoking (including cigarettes, marijuana and vaping) is *only* allowed outside. Cigarette butts must be disposed of safely and properly, not just tossed on the ground. Hosts reserve the right to charge a minimum fee of $500 if there are signs or evidence of smoking or vaping inside.
PETS
Up to 2 dogs are allowed per stay with prior approval and payment of a $109 pet fee. This fee helps ensure the next guests will never know a dog was lounging around. Guests are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. An additional fee may apply for pet waste left in the yard. Unauthorized pets or failure to pay the pet fee may result in additional charges or cancellation of the reservation. Dogs must be kept on leash any time they are outside the fenced area and should never be allowed to roam freely. As this is the desert, we ask guests to keep a close watch on their pets at all times, as coyotes, snakes and other wildlife are present.
HOT TUB
Use of the hot tub is at your own risk. No glass near the hot tub. Please shower before and after use. No dogs in the hot tub. No children in the hot tub without adult supervision.
WEATHER AND OUTDOOR CRITTERS
Even when it’s not hot outside, the sun is intense in the high desert – wear sunscreen, big hats, sunglasses and stay hydrated while you’re here. Wind is common in the high desert and sometimes can be pretty extreme – anything you leave outside can (and will) blow away.
The desert has a lot of critters and for some reason they like to find their way inside if they can, so please keep the doors and windows closed — or their screens — at all times to keep them in their natural habitat and not inside with you.
Learn more about the desert life around Joshua Tree National Park at www.nps.gov/jotr/learn/nature/animals.htm
Weather can reach its extremes in the high desert and storms can be pretty severe, if it starts raining stay out of areas and roads that are flooded
When it’s windy or stormy, sometimes the power goes out. Southern California Edison has an outage page you can track the progress and estimated time it’ll be back on — no refunds will be provided if the power goes out during your stay
Earthquakes are extremely rare, but the home isn’t far from the San Andreas fault and has experienced some moderate quakes over the years, here are a couple tips just in case
If you hear and feel an earthquake and you’re inside, stay inside and away from walls or shelves and if able, get under the kitchen table or desk in the small bedroom
If you’re outside, stay outside and away from anything that may fall and hit you
YOGA
The front courtyard and back patio are beautiful places to slow down, stretch, and settle into the rhythm of the desert. They’re especially well suited for a morning yoga flow or a quiet moment outdoors, with yoga mats available for guest use.
DAMAGE
We understand that accidents can happen. If anything is damaged during your stay—whether to the home, the property, or any of the curated items inside—we ask that you let us know as soon as possible. Prompt communication allows us to address the issue quickly and thoughtfully, helping minimize impact to the home and ensuring future guests continue to enjoy the space as intended. We approach these situations with fairness and care, and appreciate your transparency.
FACTORS OUTSIDE OUR CONTROL
We are not responsible and do not provide refunds for issues outside of our control, including but not limited to weather-related events or power outages. These issues are rare but unpredictable.
Because the home is located in a remote desert environment, guests should expect the natural elements that come with it — including wind, dust, critters, rodents, and wildlife. We thoughtfully prepare the home for each stay, but the desert is not a controlled environment, and part of its beauty is that we are sharing space with the natural world around us. Your help is appreciated in keeping the home comfortable by not leaving doors or unscreened windows open and by not leaving food out, as these small precautions go a long way in the desert.
