Local art & music inside: a colorful desert mural hand-painted by Joshua Tree artist Amber Morgan, a record player with a vinyl collection, a guitar & a cajón.

Three bedrooms, two full bathrooms and a desk in every bedroom, plus ping pong, darts & a basketball hoop in the garage for when the wind picks up. And yes, there really is a mustard-colored door.

As the sun goes down, the pace gets quieter. Sink into the hot tub, gather around the fire or head inside and put on a record. Joshua Tree nights are remarkably quiet, and that's a big part of what makes being here special.

ABOUT THE OWNERS

The Mustard Door is owned by Anna and Brenn, who opened it in 2021 and named it for its mustard-colored front door. They've put a lot of time and effort into making it an inviting, cozy home, from the hand-painted mural by local artist Amber Morgan to the backyard under the pines, and they hope you'll make the most of it while you're here.

MANAGED BY SOLN

Hello, and welcome to The Mustard Door! We're Matt + Jeff, owners of Soln, a desert-rooted hospitality company based in Joshua Tree, CA, and your hosts from booking through checkout. We're deeply familiar with the rhythms, landscape & practical realities of staying well here.

Each Soln stay is supported through thoughtful preparation before arrival, careful attention to the home and responsive, human communication throughout your visit.

We're here for you before and during your stay, whether you have questions about the home or need recommendations for hiking, dining, stargazing or exploring the area. If anything comes up, we're just a message away.

GOOD TO KNOW

Quiet is part of the experience. The Mustard Door sits in a peaceful residential neighborhood, and it's a place for relaxing, reconnecting & enjoying Joshua Tree, not parties or loud gatherings. Please read through these details before booking.

QUIET HOURS
Quiet hours run from 9 PM to 7 AM. Sound carries a long way in the desert, so outdoor conversations stay low in the evening.

GUESTS
Up to 6 registered overnight guests. The house is just for your group, so no visitors, parties or events.

PARKING
Up to 2 vehicles on the driveway. Street parking isn't allowed.

DOGS
Up to 2 well-behaved dogs are welcome with our approval before booking (sorry, no cats). The pet fee is $109 per stay.

HOT TUB SERVICE
The hot tub is serviced every Tuesday + Friday. If your stay falls on a service day, the technician will briefly access the yard.

FIRE PIT
The fire pit is wood-burning. Planning a fireside night? Pick up firewood on the way in; most local stores sell it.

GETTING HERE + AROUND
The road is paved all the way to the house. You'll need a car; rideshare in the High Desert is inconsistent, so don't count on it to get to or from the house.

SECURITY CAMERAS + NOISE MONITORS
Three exterior cameras cover the front door and driveway, the west side gate and the carport facing the street. Two Noise Aware monitors, one inside and one outside near the hot tub, measure sound levels only and don't record audio. There are no cameras inside the home.

GUEST ACCESS

The entire home and property are yours to enjoy privately during your stay: the house, the fully fenced backyard, the hot tub and the garage recreation area. Make yourself at home, spread out & enjoy every corner of The Mustard Door, inside and out.

Check-in is self check-in with a personal door code, and parking is on the concrete driveway. A washer + dryer are available for guest use.

A few closets hold Anna and Brenn's belongings and housekeeping supplies, so they stay locked. Everything you need for your stay is out and ready.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD

One of The Mustard Door's biggest advantages is its location. You're tucked into Joshua Tree's Friendly Hills neighborhood, close enough to town and the park that exploring is easy, with a private backyard & plenty of room to unwind once you're home.

✦ Downtown Joshua Tree — less than 5 minutes
Restaurants, coffee, shops, local artists, the Joshua Tree Farmers Market, Coyote Corner + the World Famous Crochet Museum
✦ Joshua Tree National Park — less than 10 minutes
The main entrance is an easy drive, so early mornings, sunset drives and nights in the park fit right into your stay
✦ Old Town Yucca Valley — about 10 minutes
Vintage shops, local businesses, restaurants + more High Desert favorites
✦ Pioneertown — about 15 minutes
An easy trip for an afternoon of exploring, dinner or live music at Pappy & Harriet's

Groceries and everyday essentials are nearby, too. You'll want a car for getting around; rideshare in the High Desert is inconsistent, so don't count on it to get to or from the house.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY REQUIREMENTS
The Mustard Door is a permitted short-term rental in San Bernardino County. After booking, guests will be asked to complete the required county registration and renter acknowledgement forms within 24 hours. These are part of the county's requirements for your stay.

HOUSE RULES
Before booking, please take a few minutes to review the full House Rules below. They cover quiet hours, occupancy, visitors, dogs, smoking, gatherings and checkout.

HOUSE RULES

Everything at The Mustard Door has been prepared so you can settle in & stay awhile: slow mornings, long afternoons out back, nights under a big desert sky. A few house essentials keep it that way, for you, for the neighbors and for whoever comes next. By booking, you agree to these House Rules and to San Bernardino County's short-term rental regulations.

COUNTY REGISTRATION + REQUIRED FORMS

After booking, the primary guest receives San Bernardino County's registration and renter acknowledgement forms. Please complete them within 24 hours. Your reservation is confirmed once they're in, and we can't host a stay without them.

OCCUPANCY + REGISTERED GUESTS ONLY

The Mustard Door welcomes up to 6 guests, children included, everyone on your reservation. The house is just for your group, so if friends are in the area, Joshua Tree's patios and saloons make a good place to meet up.

NOISE + QUIET HOURS

Nights here belong to the stars. Quiet hours at The Mustard Door run from 9 PM to 7 AM. The neighbors are close and sound carries a long way in the desert, so outdoor conversations stay low in the evening and music stays inside the property line, day or night.

PARTIES, EVENTS + COMMERCIAL USE

This is a house for slow evenings with the people you came with: dinner out back, a soak in the hot tub, a fire under the stars. San Bernardino County short-term rental rules don't allow parties, events or commercial use, and keeping things low-key protects the quiet that brought you here. Thinking about a professional photo or video shoot? Ask us before booking. Unapproved events carry a $500 fee, and unapproved commercial shoots $5,000.

HOT TUB

The hot tub is yours day and night, beneath the covered patio, with no lifeguard on duty. A few things keep the water clean and everyone safe:

✦ Shower first to rinse off sunscreen, makeup and oils.
✦ Keep glass away from the tub.
✦ Watch children in and around the tub at all times.
✦ Skip a soak after drinking, if you're unwell or if heat isn't safe for you.
✦ Replace and buckle the cover when you're done. Desert wind can lift a loose cover.
✦ Leave the controls and service settings as they are.

The hot tub is serviced every Tuesday + Friday; skip a soak right after service while chemical levels settle.

FIRE PIT + FIRE SAFETY

The fire pit is wood-burning, so pick up firewood on the way in; most local stores sell it. Keep the fire inside the pit, stay with it and put it out completely when you're done. Skip it on windy nights or when fire restrictions are in effect. Fireworks and open flames elsewhere on the property aren't allowed.

SMOKING + VAPING

The house and yard are smoke-free, inside and out, so they're fresh for every guest who comes next. If we find signs of smoking, cleanup starts at $500.

PETS

Up to 2 well-behaved dogs are welcome with payment of the $109 pet fee. Dogs must be included in your reservation and the pet fee paid before arrival. We're unable to accommodate cats or other pets.

Please keep dogs off the beds and furniture, and don't leave them alone in the house unless they're safely crated.

Please pick up after your dogs and dispose of waste properly.

The backyard is fully fenced, but this is the desert and wildlife lives here too, so dogs should always be supervised outdoors.

Guests are responsible for any damage or additional cleaning caused by their dogs.

DESERT + PROPERTY BOUNDARIES

The fenced yard is all yours. Beyond the fence are the neighbors' lots and the open desert, where coyotes, snakes and cactus spines live, so keep kids and dogs inside the fence or close by. Lizards, rabbits & the occasional snake wander through too; closed doors and screens keep them outside, where they'd rather be anyway.

SECURITY CAMERAS

For the safety and security of the property, The Mustard Door has three exterior cameras: one facing the front door and driveway, one facing the west side gate and one under the carport facing the street. There are no cameras inside the home.

Two Noise Aware monitors, one inside and one outside near the hot tub, measure sound levels only. They don't record audio.

LOCKED + RESTRICTED AREAS

A few closets hold Anna and Brenn's belongings and housekeeping supplies, so they stay locked. Everything you need for your stay is out and ready.

TRASH

Trash goes in the burgundy bin on the side of the house opposite the carport, and Burrtec collects it from there. Keep the lid closed; desert critters are very good at finding dinner.

CHECK-IN + CHECKOUT

In at 4 PM. Out at 11 AM. Slow mornings in between.

Hoping to arrive early or stay late? Ask us. When the schedule allows, we're happy to make it work. Late checkouts that weren't arranged hold up cleaning for the next guests: more than 30 minutes late is $50, more than 60 minutes is $100, more than 90 minutes is a full night's rate, and more than 2 hours, or any delay that disrupts an incoming stay, is 2× the nightly rate.

DAMAGES + PROBLEMS DURING YOUR STAY

Accidents happen, especially on vacation. If something breaks or isn't working, let us know and we'll take care of it, often the same day.

RESPECT THE HOME + NEIGHBORS

Above all, treat The Mustard Door, the surrounding desert and our neighbors with care. Thanks for helping us take good care of The Mustard Door and the little corner of Joshua Tree it calls home.
